2nd Batch

  • Application Deadline 04 May, 2008, HURRY !!!
  • Remember it is a residential event. Attending all the sessions is Mandatory.

It takes many individuals and groups to make up a successful community – individuals from local government, to bureaucrat at ministry, to school teachers, to volunteer groups to police, army personnel and businessman. Thus these are the Leaders who will shape Nepalese society in the days to come. Therefore, Civic Leadership Program recognizes that there are hundreds of leaders in Nepalese society who change the direction of society and yet typically receive little public recognition. Often, these leaders take ethically or morally correct actions that are decidedly at odds with what is popular. These leaders lead by example and with courage and passion. Their contributions to society often go unrecognized yet are indispensable to a properly functioning society.

Civic Leadership Program’s major objective will be to identify these multiplier youth leaders in their respective fields and communities, bring them together in residential outdoor civic leadership program and sharpen their leadership skills, interact with each other in the field of development, government, private sector and develop networks that will promote lifelong community involvement. This will help to:

  • build trust and energize individuals among different fields, professions, cultures and geographic regions
  • Improve communication skills, create a culture of tolerance
  • Develop high performance team with problem solving skills and strategies
  • Create an environment conducive to risk taking
  • Resolve conflict within individuals and within groups
  • Visioning exercise

Methodology

Civic Leadership Program will first identify 120 youth leaders from different fields who have potential to take leadership position in their respective fields and shape Nepal’s future in few years to come. These leaders will come from seven areas namely:  Students; Business and Enterprise; Professional groups; Politics; Social work and Activism; Arts, Music and Sports; Government service, Police and Army. They will be recognized as Civic Leadership Fellows.

Each fellow will go through two modules of Civic Leadership Program. The first module will run for six months. Each month one outdoor residential leadership camp will be organized where 24 youth leaders will participate. So five batches of leadership programs will be conducted for five month where all the 120 youth leaders will get the opportunity to participate. The youth leaders will get the opportunity to learn about leadership, leadership models, civic services, roles and responsibilities of different actors of state, rule of law, team building, trust building, strategic visioning. The youth leaders will also develop their personal vision for ten years and action plans. They will also undergo visioning exercises for their particular field they represent and for a collective vision for Nepal

Apart from these modules there will also be bi-monthly interaction programs where all the 120 fellows will be invited. This interaction program will take the form of keynote speeches, panel discussions on civic leadership issues and affairs. It will also further enhance the connection among the fellows.
