Mr. Raj Kumar Gandharba won Anthony Thompson Award 2008: A success story for Xplore International

Jana Utthan Pratisthan (JUP-Nepal) General Secretary Mr. Raj Kumar Gandharba won the Anthony Thompson Award 2008. ILIG (International Library and Information Group of CILIP) Committee of UK decides on the award from outside UK who contributes in establishing public libraries and related work. Anthony Thompson was the first full-time IFLA Secretary General, from 1962 to 1970, and following his death a trust fund was set up for this award in his name. The award is made approximately every 2-3 years starting from 1983. Mr Gandharba is the first Nepali receiving this award and second from South Asia (Mrs Sudha Saxena from India got this award in 1993). The award nomination was made by JUP-Nepal and he is selected among 52 nominations globally. In this regard he will visit UK from 7 to 29 June, 2008 and take part in the various conferences and events.

He got the information about Anthony Thompson Award entirely from the source of present Xplore International team. The information of this award was disseminated by Xplore Team in Info Series number 123, dated on 4th December 2007.
